What Is This?

This is 1:1 creative mentoring with Aaron Espe for songwriters who want to grow—not just finish songs, but understand why they work (or don’t), and how to keep getting better over time.

It’s not a critique dump.
It’s not a hit-song factory.
It’s a thoughtful, human back-and-forth focused on craft, curiosity, and momentum.

Who Is It For?

This is for songwriters at any level who:

  • Have a genuine hunger to grow

  • Are curious about process, not just outcomes

  • Want honest, encouraging feedback from someone who’s been at this a long time

  • Value a relationship over a one-off transaction

  • Are proud of their songs—but know they’re not done yet

If you like slow thinking, thoughtful questions, and feedback that meets you where you are, you’ll feel at home here.

Who Is It Not For?

This is not a good fit if you’re:

  • Primarily looking to find out whether you “have a hit”

  • Hoping for industry shortcuts, contacts, or an “in”

  • Wanting validation without challenge

  • Looking for fast, transactional notes rather than an ongoing creative relationship

There are great services for those needs—this just isn’t one of them.

How It Works

  1. Reach out to express interest
    Just send a short message saying you’d like to participate.

  2. Submit your songs
    You’ll send 1–3 songs you’re currently excited about—songs you believe in, but want help shaping.
    Along with the songs, you’ll include:

    • Lyrics

    • Any specific questions you have (structure, melody, lyrics, perspective, etc.)

  3. Aaron listens—before reading anything
    First, Aaron listens without lyrics or questions and shares his gut reactions:

    • What’s immediately working

    • What stands out emotionally

    • Where his attention drifts or leans in

  4. Then the deeper dive
    After that, he reads your lyrics and questions and responds with more detailed feedback—connecting craft, instinct, and intention.

  5. Ongoing relationship
    This is a monthly mentorship. Over time, Aaron gets to know you as a writer—your tendencies, strengths, blind spots, and growth edges.
